I’m not sure who Elbert Hubbard was or is but he once said “Some men succeed by what they know, others by what they do; but a few by what they are.” At VEC we have an active men’s group which meets fortnightly on a Tuesday evening, starting at 7.30 pm when we share a meal together, not quite Jamie Oliver, but pretty close.

We have a time of discussion and Bible study which is always informative and thought provoking. As men there is much emphasis on our achievements and what we do, yet as the quote says, the more important thing is ‘who we are’. So the aim of BOB (Band of Brothers) is to look at what a Godly man looks like and support each other as we seek to walk that out in our work place, within our families and with our wives and partners.

There is a real range of age, experience and backgrounds, which brings a rich mix of wisdom and input on a Tuesday evening. Proverbs 27:17 says ‘Iron sharpens iron and one man sharpens another’ – from doing a lot of carpentry myself I know that there is nothing more frustrating than a blunt chisel.

The Bible says there nothing more useless than a blunt man, so get sharp and sharpen others, Tuesday nights at BOB.
